When it comes to generating leads online, you need a freebie, a lead magnet, that people want to get their hands on. That’s what sets your lead generation on fire.

But you don’t have any idea where to start and what to write or talk about.

This article shows you step by step how to build a lead magnet that your ideal customer just craves.

What to write about

The most important thing when it comes to creating your Lead Magnet is, it needs to be ultra-specific and super-relevant to your ideal customer.

The biggest problem I see coaches struggling with is that they want to be all things to all people.

But think about it. Imagine, you have a severe headache on the right side of your forehead. So, you go to the next drugstore looking for a medicine that cures headaches.

What you find are 3 different types of pills:

  • The first promises that it cures every pain in your body, no matter what it is.
  • The second promises to cure headaches
  • And the third one promises to cure headaches in 10 minutes or less, especially when a headache occurs on the right side of your forehead

What pills would you go for?

See!

That’s how powerful target marketing is.

And you need the right message for your audience.

The performance of your Lead Magnet (and that means the performance of your lead generation) will drastically improve you offer an ULTRA-SPECIFIC solution for a problem that your client suffers from.

Let’s say you are in the weight loss niche.

What is your ideal client?

Here are some examples:

  1. A young mom age 25 to 35 having her first baby and is interested in losing the extra pounds she has gained during pregnancy
  2. A hard working 40-year-old CEO who has started to gain extra weight because he has no time to workout and he wants to know how to lose weight fast.
  3. A 15-year-old teenager who is in love for the first time and wants to lose weight to be more attractive to the man she fell in love with.
  4. A 65-year-old man whose doctor told him that he urgently needs to lose weight because otherwise, he lives with the risk of suffering from a heart attack

Can you see how each of these people have different problems, fears, dreams, and desires, although they all just want to lose weight?

Consider how different a Lead Magnet would have to be for each of these people.

So, take a few minutes and think about who is the IDEAL client for whom you want to create this Lead Magnet. What promise can you make to them?

Once you have your ideal client in mind… it’s time to start.

The title of your Lead Magnet

The title of your lead magnet is the first thing that your potential client will see. Please give it some thoughts. It is really important. The title has an enormous influence on the conversion rate of your lead magnet. The title should make them curious and excited about your lead magnet. This is all it takes to make them opt-in to your list!

If you’re used to writing headlines, email subject lines, blog post titles, etc. that get a response – this is no different.

If you’re new to writing these, it’s worth your time to learn how to craft a winning title.

There are a lot of resources out there on the Internet that can help you do this.

One of the easiest and very attention-grabbing headline formula that I have learned from Frank Kern is “How to … (YAY) without … (BOO)” meaning how to achieve something without having to do something I don’t like.

Here’s an example:

“How to lose 15 pounds in 30 days without having to starve and to lift heavy weights.”

Now, believe it or not, you’ve already done the hardest work in creating your lead magnet. You know your ideal client, you know what they are looking for and you’ve crafted a compelling title that converts like crazy!

The next step is to think about what format in which you will deliver your Lead Magnet would be the best.

To make a decision, think about what you can create the easiest, what would be the best format to convey the message and what would be the most fun and be engaging for your potential client.

But most importantly. Keep it simple! If you can’t create it easily and fast, chances are you will never create it.

And you also want it to be consumed fast and easily. The faster people consume your Lead Magnet the quicker you get them through your funnel and convert them into paying customers.

Here are some ideas for different Lead Magnet Types that I would recommend for you.

PDF report

PDF Reports are the most common types of Lead Magnets offered on the Internet.

The biggest benefit of a PDF report type is that it is a text document, maybe with images and it can be downloaded instantly.

Cheat Sheet

Cheat Sheets are perceived differently than Reports. People don’t want to waste their time by reading lengthy reports.

So, cheat sheets are usually one-pager or sometimes 2 pages long and they cut straight to an ultra-specific point.

Online training (Video Trainings)

Online training has a very high perceived value. People rather watch a video than reading a report.

But let me warn you again. Only go for a video training if you have the appropriate skill-set. If you have to master a learning curve, chances are you never get your lead magnet out into the world. So better start with what you can offer right away.

If you’ve ever used the zoom to connect with people online than you have a great chance to create a video training. With the zoom, you can set up a meeting just with yourself, do your presentation and record it.

Voíla! There is your video!

Quiz / Assessment

In a quiz or assessment, you ask your website visitor a series of questions. Then you take them to a results page where you discuss the overall score. To get in more depth with their result you ask them for an email address you can send it to.

Now it’s time to get it done!

Let’s do it

If you’re writing a Report, WRITE IT.

If you’re making a video, SHOOT IT.

If you’re doing a quiz, CREATE IT.

You know, what I mean. Let’s get it done!

Remember the fastest your lead magnet is out there, the faster you will get clients!

Uuuuh, I get it, it’s so frustrating to start at a blank page trying to get something down.

That’s why I have created a little template for you that makes it so much easier to start the writing process and complete your lead magnet in no time!

You can download your Lead Magnet template [here].

That’s it for today. I wish you some creative moments and the best of luck to you.
